The Film’s-finally-finished blog!
Welcome to the film's-finally-finished blog! Hopefully you'll notice a different tone…maybe not so much begging for donations? But that can't be right? We're still taking donations! Help us out! Buy our merchandise! Support the local arts! Exclamation Points!
It's been ages since our last blog, but for good reason. We can officially say that the film is complete. Done. No more changes, no more re-edits, no anything. Standing at a solid 48 minutes, our baby is now off to festivals.
We were able to finish the film because a lot of generous people gave us money on our Kickstarter fundraising page. $2800 later, we started shipping checks down to North Carolina where we had one of the most talented people we know start scoring the film with all new, ORIGINAL music.
Every documentary you've ever seen has music. It's been scored with either found music or original tunes. It was important to us to have the film scored with some emotion. These tracks weren't the cheapest we could find on some bargain music site, these are songs infused with thought and imagination and what I think is probably some kind of dark magic. They're seriously good.
Matt Spainhour - that talented necromancer musician - gave us a beautiful soundtrack that weaves nuances of the town into each song. He's a genius on the guitar and banjo, a lot of which you'll hear on the soundtrack. Each song, especially 'After the Flood' and 'Factoryville!' are heartbreaking, but in the best way possible. If you ever need a soundtrack for your film, this is the guy to talk to.
Now you're probably wondering, what happens now? I am also wondering that. It's not the easiest question to answer. I've always said the film is like our baby. Now I'm telling people that we've kicked our baby out, sent it to college, and now we're waiting to see if we actually raised something worth watching. We've submitted to about 8 or 9 different festivals, all over the country, in hopes to get the name out there. We haven't heard back from any yet, but we'll start to get some response in September. (NOTE: WE ACTUALLY JUST HEARD FROM ONE! AND WE WERE ACCEPTED! DETAILS IN NEW BLOG SOON!) It's extremely nerve wracking, but my hope is that people will appreciate the unique story we've told, and they'll be mesmerized by the small town life we portrayed.
This is the part of the blog where I have to thank 39478749 people for being such huge supporters of the film. We've had a lot of people make large donations: Keystone College, The Factoryville Women's Civic League, The Men's Club, Mark Brewin & Jess Keough, Kim Ryon -- they've all given large sums to the cause. We have 48 funders on Kickstarter, and about 25 others that donated offline in amounts anywhere from $5 to $200. The credits of our film list each and every financial supporter, along with people who were just general supporters - the people who kept convincing us that the work we were doing was actually good.
My mom always tells me that she's proud of me. Actually that she's proud of both Kevin and me. I can honestly say that this is the project I'm most proud of myself, and it's been an absolute gift to work with so many talented people, my mom and that husband of mine included. My parents have always been big fans of our baby, and now I can see that it's not just because it's cute. This is a good story, and a great film.
So with all that being said, (phew) please PLEASE continue to support us by purchasing the film on our film's website. You can buy the DVD for $20, the CD for $15, or the two of them together for a cool $25 including shipping! Just think, you could buy Avatar with that amount of money, but this film is about community. It may not have been filmed in 3D, but I think it tells a better story and has more attractive humans. Yeah, Mr. Nowakowski!
www.christymathewsondayfilm.com <---- That's where you can go to help us out. The DVD makes a great stocking stuffer, get a jump start on that Christmas shopping!
In all seriousness, please tell anyone you think may be interested that the film is now available for purchase. We have a large debt on our production credit card that we'd like to pay off, and this could be our chance! Thank you all for reading (it's a lot longer than I had planned) and for continuing to be fans of 23circles, Christy Mathewson Day and us in general. We couldn't possibly thank you all enough.
We hope to see you all soon, and stay updated daily on our Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/christymathewsonday
Many, enormous thanks,
danielle
